Stories and songs with Steve and Ainsley Apirana

We will be touring Australia in April, May and June this year. We have divided our trip into two parts – a northern and a southern, with a short break at home between the two. We apologise to those who will not be seeing us this time. Karumba and Alice Springs in - we did hope to get to you as well but it has proved impossible logistically so we will just have to plan another Aussi adventure along the track – 2018 should be a better year for that.

Our plan is to leave the Sunshine Coast on the 7th April heading north to Yeppoon. From there we go further north to Cairns for a conference with the Aboriginal Churches of the north, then back via Mackay on the 22nd April and home again to play at the Maroochy Surf Club on the 26th April. We have a two-week break at home before heading off on the 8th May down along the western highway to be in Adelaide for a week from the 13th to the 19th, then head back up the coast via Melbourne where we will stay from the 22nd May till the 5th June before heading up to Canberra for the weekend of the 10th June, Coffs Harbour the 17th June and home by the 20th June. Once again we will be playing in churches, halls and homes across the country bringing our unique style of song and story with two guitars, whistles, flutes and harmonicas.

Our mission is to bring encouragement and hope to people in all walks of life; to share our songs and our stories of life on the road, the triumphs and struggles we face crossing racial, cultural and socio-economic boundaries. Over a span of almost thirty years we have toured Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, and Europe playing in churches, halls, prisons, schools, café’s, clubs festivals and car parks. We hope to continue doing so for many years to come. If you have somewhere you would like us to play drop us a line and we will try to fit you in to our itinerary. Steve Apirana has made a name for himself throughout the Pacific and beyond. He is one of the finest gospel musicians currently touring. He is a gifted communicator, highly skilled guitarist and vocalist, with an extraordinary sense of humour who captivates audiences in a way that very few can. Eclectic in style, he specializes in blues and gospel, and over the 35 years of his career has played with some of the best. He first took to the stage in Butler, then joined gospel band Judah, started up sixties spoof rock band “The Velvettes”, then toured solo and more recently teamed up with his wife Ainsley. He has released four albums, the latest, This Wretched Man, in November 2011.

Ainsley Apirana, also a singer/songwriter, recorded her first album in 2001 and then in 2014 released her latest - Cappuccinos and Vanilla Squares. Ainsley joins Steve with vocals, guitar, whistles and flutes to bring you a collection of songs from their six albums and some of their favourite covers.
